As a rule, the trades don’t usually give a hoot about HR—until it’s too late.
Trades businesses often need significant support in the areas of apprenticeship and hiring, including:
- Establishing performance requirements
- Developing structured training programs
- Determining appropriate wages
But, they also need guidance in developing the sorts of policies and procedures that will protect the company from employment-related liability, such as hiring and firing practices, internal controls, and drug and alcohol policies.
Growth is sexy, paperwork isn’t. But to be successful in the long term, trades businesses need both.
